MacDeck FAQs

What platform safety decking system do I need?

We provide a range of solutions tailored to different types of construction projects. Our Macdeck safety decking system is versatile and suitable for various build types, including Traditional, Timber Frame, Steel Frame, and commercial builds such as care homes.

Depending on the platform height required for your project, we offer a selection of fixed and extendable legs ranging from 1.5m to 3.0m platform height.

For instance, a typical new build using Masonry often requires a platform height of 1.8m, with exceptions like garages where a 1.5m platform height is preferred.

In Timber or Steel Frame builds, the typical platform height is 2.0m, although 1.8m is sometimes suitable.

For commercial builds and care homes, platform height requirements can vary depending on ceiling heights and construction methods. Our range of extendable legs ensures flexibility to accommodate these diverse scenarios.

If you need a freestanding solution, our crash deck platform provides the flexibility to select your desired platform height. Whether it’s for a traditional house or for spaces with higher ceiling heights, our system offers customisable options. Additionally, it can be freestanding, making it ideal for areas with open-ended facades or elevations where a supporting structure isn’t necessary.

We offer comprehensive services including hire, sale, and installation of our Macdeck safety decking, ensuring the protection of your staff and subcontractors when working at height. Upon your initial enquiry, a dedicated sales representative will be available to discuss your needs, address any questions you may have, and provide expert guidance on the most suitable method and system for your specific requirements.

Is Macdeck a freestanding platform?

Indeed, the Macdeck system can be assembled freestanding with the use of the MacBrace component. This integral feature enables the Macdeck crash deck to achieve complete freestanding stability when constructed according to manufacturer guidelines.

As a result, it eliminates the necessity for supporting walls, which is often a prevalent need in today’s market. This requirement is particularly common in scenarios with low-level living spaces at single-story height, protruding porches, and expansive open facades awaiting curtain walling.

For detailed assembly instructions and structural calculations, please refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Can the safety decking system be loaded?

The Macdeck trad deck system can support a load of up to 2.0kN (200kg) per m2, provided that the weight is evenly distributed above the legs. Loading diagrams are available upon request for each individual house builder’s specifications.

It’s important to note that the overall loading capacity is also influenced by the load capacity of the floor joists provided by the manufacturer. While our safety decking system can handle loads of up to 2.0kN, it’s essential to consider the limitations of the floor joists. In some cases, the joists may not be able to withstand the additional load imposed when the crash decking system is fully loaded.

Can scaffold be built through the Macdeck system?

Our safety decking is specially engineered to accommodate tubular or system scaffolds built through its structure. We provide a standard scaffolding crash deck design with accompanying calculations to support the erection of party wall scaffolding through the decking system. Leveraging JMAC’s rich heritage and experience in managing a reputable scaffolding company, we offer tailored advice and solutions for bespoke projects. This expertise enables us to coordinate scaffolding operations seamlessly with safety decking platforms, ensuring maximum value for our clients.

What leg sizes do you offer?

We provide Macdeck legs in three different sizes: 1.5m (white), 1.8m (black), and 2.0m (black). Additionally, we offer an extendable leg option, allowing for adjustable heights ranging from 1.8m to 3.0m.

What is the correct way to store the Macdeck crash deck?

We offer extended stillages capable of storing up to 102 legs each. Panels should be pallet-stacked and banded, with a maximum stack height of 25 panels.

Is training provided on all purchases of the Macdeck system?

Complimentary delivery and training are included with every purchase of our Macdeck system. We believe in the significance of training and introducing our product to our customers. This personalised approach underscores our commitment to each client, allowing us to establish a relationship built on mutual understanding and support from the outset.
